Eleanor Tomlinson, known for her role in Poldark, is set to reprise her character in the acclaimed period drama The Forsytes, which was filmed in Bristol. The series is garnering attention ahead of its upcoming American debut on PBS Masterpiece.
The show, which has already resonated with audiences, is reported to be entering a third season, bolstering excitement for viewers in both the UK and the US. The Forsytes draws inspiration from John Galsworthy’s celebrated Forsyte Saga, exploring the intricate lives, romances, and societal challenges faced by a wealthy stockbroking family during the late Victorian era.
The narrative centers on the Forsyte family, whose members grapple with the intersection of tradition and personal desires. The series captures pivotal events as rival cousins Jolyon and Soames find their seemingly stable lives disrupted by unexpected encounters. Jolyon navigates the return of his former lover, Louisa, a dressmaker, while his daughter June falls for a struggling architect. Meanwhile, Soames is captivated by Irene, a spirited dancer, prompting family members to confront whether to follow their hearts or adhere to societal expectations.
The series is penned by Debbie Horsfield, a veteran writer known for her work on Poldark. Its ensemble cast features notable talents, including Susan Hampshire, who previously starred in the 1967 adaptation of Galsworthy’s work. The cast is further strengthened by actors such as Millie Gibson, Joshua Orpin, Danny Griffin, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Moyer, Jack Davenport, and Tom Durant Pritchard.
Production for the third series is set to commence next month in various locations across the UK, according to Deadline. This new season promises to delve deeper into the complexities of the Forsyte family’s relationships.
With the series’ first season slated to premiere in the US on March 22, 2026, viewers can look forward to an expansive portrayal of familial duty and personal longing. Previous adaptations of Galsworthy’s saga have included BBC broadcasts in 1967 and ITV’s 2022 rendition, alongside cinematic and radio interpretations.
Horsfield has described her involvement as a “great honor,” capturing the essence of Galsworthy’s epic while emphasizing a fresh perspective that highlights female characters in the saga. Susanne Simpson, executive producer for Masterpiece, emphasized the series’ exploration of how familial obligations are often at odds with matters of the heart, promising that exceptional scripts will be brought to life through a lavish production.
As The Forsytes prepares for its US launch, anticipation continues to build for both its narrative and aesthetic offerings.
