Television chef Matt Tebbutt will not be returning as the host of MasterChef: The Professionals following a single series in the role, sources confirm. Tebbutt stepped in to replace Gregg Wallace, who departed the series amid misconduct allegations.
As the current series concludes, the show will revert to its original hosting duo, Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti, both of whom have been mainstays since 2014, barring a temporary absence for Galetti.
Reports suggest that the decision for Tebbutt’s departure is unrelated to his performance as host; rather, it reflects the established rapport between Wareing and Galetti. “The chemistry between the two is well-regarded, and it became apparent that a trio might not be necessary,” noted an insider. “Matt took the news in stride, and he has numerous other commitments to keep him occupied.”
While some may be surprised by the early exit, the same source reassured, “Matt has not done anything wrong and is expected to make guest appearances in future seasons.”
In response to the reports, a spokesperson for Banijay, the production company behind MasterChef, stated, “No decisions have been finalized regarding the hosting lineup for future series. We do not engage in speculation.”
When he joined the show last year, Tebbutt expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity, calling it an “absolute honour” to work alongside seasoned culinary figures. He acknowledged the challenges of replacing Wallace but remained focused on making his own contribution to the show without overshadowing others.
Reflecting on his brief tenure, Tebbutt remarked, “Stepping into someone’s shoes can be difficult, but I’ve always aimed to leave my mark with integrity. I’m committed to maintaining high standards, especially given the caliber of the contestants.”
Despite the departure, the chef remains optimistic about his career trajectory, having gained valuable exposure from his time on MasterChef: The Professionals.
