Meghan Markle to Appear in Exclusive Sydney Event Amid Shift in Philanthropic Focus
Former producer O’Neill, now the sole host of her podcast following the departure of co-host Henderson, confirmed on Wednesday that she has secured an exclusive engagement with Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. O’Neill expressed her admiration for Markle during the announcement, noting, “I have admired Meghan and what she has endured… and how she has demonstrated how a woman can be pushed down and still rise.”
The opportunity arose through a mutual friend who suggested a meeting at Markle’s residence. O’Neill shared that while she had reservations about the offer, she ultimately accepted it, believing her audience deserved the chance to hear from Markle. “It’s a very small event for 300 women… it’s going to be a fireside chat with Meghan and I,” O’Neill noted.
Set to take place at a luxury hotel on Coogee Beach, Sydney, the event promises an enriching weekend aimed at empowering women, featuring activities such as talks by a psychologist, yoga, sound healing, and a meditation session. Described as an “unforgettable weekend for women ready to reconnect, recharge, and have some serious fun,” VIP tickets for the event are priced at A$3,199 (approximately $2,300; £1,700).
Since their last trip to Australia in 2018, when the couple embarked on their first overseas tour as newlyweds and announced Meghan’s pregnancy, much has shifted for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Their 16-day tour was met with widespread acclaim, which included notable outings like a visit to Bondi Beach and an ascent of the Sydney Harbour Bridge with then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
In early 2020, the couple stepped back from their roles as senior royals and relocated to the United States, citing a desire to escape relentless media scrutiny and allegations of racism within the royal family. In recent discussions, Prince Harry has expressed a longing for reconciliation with his father, King Charles.
Earlier in the week, a spokesperson confirmed that the upcoming April trip to Australia will involve “private, business, and philanthropic engagements.” This announcement follows the recent news that Markle’s lifestyle brand, “As Ever,” has ended its partnership with Netflix, with the couple having previously signed a significant contract with the streaming giant in 2020 purportedly worth around $100 million (£75 million). Markle’s cooking and lifestyle show, “With Love, Meghan,” aired for two series and a Christmas special, but did not resonate strongly with audiences.
