PBS Masterpiece Renews The Forsytes for Third Season Ahead of Premiere
The Forsytes, a period drama based on John Galsworthy’s acclaimed work, has secured a renewal for its third season even before its debut on PBS Masterpiece. The announcement has sparked excitement among fans and critics alike.
Production for Season 3 of the series is set to commence next month, with filming taking place in the UK and various locations across Europe, according to sources from Deadline.
The first season of The Forsytes is scheduled to premiere on PBS Masterpiece on March 22, following its earlier release on the UK network 5, which is owned by Paramount. Season 2 was filmed last year, heightening anticipation for the show’s continuation.
Set against the backdrop of 1880s London, the series offers a sweeping portrayal of a wealthy British family. Leading the ensemble cast is BAFTA-winning actress Francesca Annis, known for her role in Lillie, who portrays the formidable matriarch, Ann Forsyte.
The cast also features notable actors, including Stephen Moyer from True Blood and Millie Gibson of Doctor Who. Other cast members include Jack Davenport (The Morning Show) and Eleanor Tomlinson (One Day), adding to the series’ strong roster.
Moyer plays Ann’s eldest son, Jolyon Senior, who heads the family’s stockbroking firm, Forsyte & Co. In a compelling dynamic, Danny Griffin, known for his role in Fate: The Winx Saga, stars as Jo, Jolyon’s bohemian son. Tuppence Middleton, recognized for her work in Downton Abbey: A New Era, takes on the role of Frances, Jo’s socially ambitious wife. Tomlinson portrays Louisa Byrne, a dressmaker from Soho and Jo’s first love.
The competitive younger son, James, is played by Davenport, with Joshua Orpin from Titans taking on the role of James’ calculating son, Soames. Gibson appears as Soames’ romantic interest, while Tom Durant Pritchard from This Is Going To Hurt plays Monty Dartie, James’ son-in-law.
The adaptation of Galsworthy’s work is penned by Debbie Horsfield, known for her previous work on Poldark. Executive producers include Horsfield, Meenu Gaur, Michael Ray, and Damien Timmer from Mammoth Screen, which is part of ITV Studios. Susanne Simpson serves as the executive producer for Masterpiece.
The Forsytes is produced in association with ITV Studios, which manages international distribution rights, while PBS Distribution oversees rights for North America.
As anticipation builds for the show’s premiere, the early renewal signals confidence in The Forsytes, promising viewers even more intrigue and drama in the lives of the Forsyte family.
