Quentin Tarantino’s New Play Set for West End Debut
Quentin Tarantino is set to make his mark on the West End with his much-anticipated new play. Following confirmation from Variety last week regarding his next venture, additional details were disclosed in a press release on Wednesday.
Titled “The Popinjay Cavalier,” the play is characterized as a “swashbuckling comedy.” It is both written and directed by Tarantino, with production headed by Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Taking place in 1830s Europe, “The Popinjay Cavalier” promises a lively narrative of deception and disguise, inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics that have captivated audiences on stage and screen. Currently under development, the play aims for an early 2027 premiere, with the specific venue yet to be announced. Information regarding the casting, creative team, performance dates, and other relevant details will follow in due course.
Variety reported last week that while the cast remains unconfirmed, it may feature a mix of emerging talents and established actors. Tarantino initially revealed his foray into playwriting during a panel discussion at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. He mentioned that depending on the play’s reception, he might adapt it into a film, potentially marking his 10th and final cinematic project.
“If you’re wondering what I’m doing right now, I’m writing a play, and it’s going to be probably the next thing I end up doing,” he stated at the festival. “If it’s a fiasco, I probably won’t turn it into a movie. But if it’s a smash hit? It might be my last movie.”
Those interested in attending “The Popinjay Cavalier” can now sign up for priority booking through the play’s official website.
