Cryptocurrency Heist in France: Le Chesnay Residents Targeted in Home Invasion
In a disturbing incident, a couple from Le Chesnay, near Versailles, fell victim to a violent cryptocurrency robbery on Monday morning, resulting in the loss of approximately €900,000 in Bitcoin. This news was first reported by TF1 Info.
According to the Versailles prosecutor’s office, the assailants gained access to the couple’s home by impersonating law enforcement officers. When the woman responded to the door, the men forcibly entered, overpowering her.
One of the intruders brandished a knife and threatened the woman with physical harm unless her partner complied with their demands. Under duress, the man successfully transferred the cryptocurrency amount as requested.
Victims Bound as Perpetrators Flee
Following the transaction, the attackers restrained the man to a sofa while the woman sustained a minor shoulder injury during the confrontation. The assailants swiftly fled the scene in a white van.
The hostage situation concluded around 9 a.m. when the woman managed to free herself and sought assistance from neighbors.
An investigation is currently underway by French authorities specializing in gang-related crime, but no arrests have been reported thus far.
An Increasing Trend of Cryptocurrency-related Crimes in France
This incident is part of an alarming trend of crypto-related kidnappings and robberies that have emerged in France since early 2025. Notably, the kidnapping of David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, in January garnered significant media attention, highlighting the risks faced by individuals connected to the cryptocurrency industry.
