YouTube Creator Executes Successful Storage Upgrade on MacBook Neo in ASMR Video
Acclaimed YouTube content creator DirectorFeng has returned with an innovative ASMR-themed teardown video, showcasing their recent success in upgrading the storage capacity of a MacBook Neo from 256GB to an impressive 1TB.
Last year, DirectorFeng garnered attention for attempting a similar upgrade on the iPhone 17 Pro Max but encountered significant obstacles due to NAND compatibility issues. Despite those challenges, the previous video captivated ASMR enthusiasts with its meticulous approach and calming narration.
In the latest installment, DirectorFeng meticulously dismantles the MacBook Neo, removing the logic board to access its internal components. The upgrade process involves desoldering the original 256GB NAND chip before carefully cleaning the area and soldering in a new 1TB chip. Following reconstruction, DirectorFeng successfully boots the device, navigating through the necessary Device Firmware Upgrade (DFU) procedures with assistance from a second Mac. The final setup is confirmed as DirectorFeng reveals the upgraded storage capacity within the System Settings interface.
Interestingly, while DirectorFeng’s technique is noteworthy, they may not be the first to achieve this modification. Viewers have referenced repair creator Yang Changshun, who reportedly completed a similar upgrade during a live stream, although that video is currently unavailable on YouTube.
