BBC Extends Commitment to The Traitors Franchise Through 2030
The BBC has announced a significant three-year extension of its relationship with the widely acclaimed psychological series, The Traitors, as well as its celebrity counterpart, The Celebrity Traitors. This renewed agreement ensures that both series will continue to air on BBC One and be available for streaming on BBC iPlayer until at least 2030. The decision underscores the BBC’s ongoing dedication to producing original entertainment that resonates with viewers across the UK.
Produced by Studio Lambert Scotland, both series promise to deliver an abundance of suspenseful moments, intricate plots, and dramatic twists, all set against the backdrop of the iconic Ardross Castle. The addition of this new deal further solidifies iPlayer’s status as the principal platform for The Traitors franchise, which includes international adaptations from the US, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.
Since its debut in October 2025, The Celebrity Traitors has enjoyed remarkable success, achieving an average viewership of 14.9 million, with a peak of 15.4 million tuning in for the finale. This series has not only dominated the entertainment landscape but has also emerged as the top entertainment program across all platforms since 2016.
The Traitors’ fourth series, which captivated audiences in January 2026, averaged 12.5 million viewers over 28 days, representing a 22% increase from the previous season’s 10.3 million. A remarkable 53% of this viewership originated from BBC iPlayer, which indicates a considerable shift toward digital consumption. Notably, the series also appealed to younger audiences, with 2.6 million viewers aged 16 to 34 making up 20% of the total audience, marking a 12% increase from the third series.
An Economic Impact Report released by the BBC in November 2025 highlighted that The Traitors franchise has contributed approximately £21.8 million in Gross Value Added (GVA) to Scotland’s economy since its inception in 2022.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at the BBC, expressed enthusiasm for the continued journey of The Traitors. “We are delighted to extend our commitment to The Traitors and The Celebrity Traitors until 2030. A huge thank you to the exceptional team at Studio Lambert Scotland for their creativity and hard work,” she stated.
Stephen Lambert, CEO of Studio Lambert, echoed Patel-Knight’s sentiments, adding, “The Traitors has emerged as a bona fide television phenomenon, particularly in the UK, and we are excited to keep this journey alive. Viewers can look forward to more strategy, suspense, and shocking twists in the forthcoming installments.”
Looking ahead, Series Five of The Traitors is set to premiere on BBC One and iPlayer in 2027, followed by Series Six in 2028, Series Seven in 2029, and Series Eight in 2030. Meanwhile, The Celebrity Traitors will return with its second season later in 2026, with additional seasons following in 2027, 2028, and 2029.
Kalpna Patel-Knight has commissioned both series, with executive production handled by Mike Cotton, Sarah Fay, Lewis Thurlow, and Darrell Olsen from Studio Lambert Scotland. The commissioning editors for the BBC include Neil McCallum and Michael Jochnowitz.
Originally developed in the Netherlands by IDTV, an All3Media company, The Traitors format has been adapted globally, with All3Media International managing worldwide sales.
