Florida Woman Charged with Attempted Murder in Shooting Incident at Rihanna’s Home
A 35-year-old woman from Florida has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting incident at the Beverly Hills residence of pop icon Rihanna on Sunday. Ivanna Lisette Ortiz faces multiple felony charges, including one count of attempted murder, ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling. Court records indicate that there were no injuries reported during the incident.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell disclosed that ten individuals were present at Rihanna’s home when the shots were fired. However, he refrained from confirming whether the singer, her partner A$AP Rocky, or their three children were among those in the house at the time.
According to McDonnell, investigators suspect Ortiz traveled from her most recent residence in Orlando, Florida, to Los Angeles, although the specifics of her journey remain unclear. Ortiz has been a licensed speech pathologist for over a decade, as reported by the Associated Press.
Authorities have not disclosed any potential connections between Ortiz and Rihanna or her family, leaving the motive for the shooting ambiguous. Representatives for Rihanna have not yet responded to requests for comment from the Associated Press.
As of now, it remains uncertain whether Ortiz is being represented by legal counsel; inquiries to the Los Angeles public defender’s office went unanswered.
Local news footage captured by KABC-TV reveals at least five bullet holes in the front gate of Rihanna’s residence, and police dispatch audio indicates that ten shots were fired during the incident.
This event comes in the wake of a 2018 incident when another individual was charged with breaking into one of Rihanna’s homes in Hollywood Hills and staying there for several hours. That person later entered a no contest plea to charges of stalking and vandalism.
The Los Angeles district attorney’s office, which is managing Ortiz’s prosecution, has not yet responded to further inquiries. Notably, this office previously charged A$AP Rocky with assault involving a semiautomatic firearm related to a 2021 Hollywood altercation; he was found not guilty by a jury.
