Kathryn Hahn Cast as Mother Gothel in Disney’s Live-Action Remake of Tangled
Walt Disney Studios has officially announced that Golden Globe nominee Kathryn Hahn will portray Mother Gothel in the much-anticipated live-action adaptation of Tangled. The confirmation came via a lively social media video featuring Hahn, celebrated for her role as Agatha Harkness in Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series WandaVision.
Hahn’s casting had been speculated earlier this year, following reports suggesting that Disney was eyeing the acclaimed actress for the role. Interestingly, before Hahn was confirmed, Scarlett Johansson was also considered for the iconic villainous character.
The live-action Tangled will be helmed by Michael Gracey, known for his work on The Greatest Showman, while Jennifer Kaytin Robinson will craft the screenplay. Hahn will star alongside Teagan Croft, cast as Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim, set to play Flynn Rider. The film is being produced by Kristin Burr at Burr! Productions, with Lucy Kitada serving as an executive producer.
Originally released in 2010, the animated Tangled was co-directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, featuring a screenplay from Dan Fogelman. The film, which grossed over $590 million worldwide, boasts an impressive 89% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 226 reviews. Its success also prompted the creation of a short film and subsequent television show.
As the project progresses, anticipation builds for how this beloved classic will be reimagined for a new generation.
