Matt Tebbutt Addresses MasterChef: The Professionals Departure Speculation
Celebrity chef and presenter Matt Tebbutt has addressed rumors regarding his exit from MasterChef: The Professionals, responding to reports claiming he will not return for the upcoming season after only one series.
Tebbutt, 52, joined the esteemed BBC cooking competition during its 18th series, stepping in as a judge alongside Marcus Wareing and Monica Galetti, following the departure of longtime host Gregg Wallace. Recent speculation suggested that producers have deemed the show could continue with just Wareing and Galetti, leading to uncertainty about Tebbutt’s future on the panel.
In response to mounting inquiries from fans, Tebbutt took to Instagram to clarify his position. “A lot of lovely people have contacted me about not doing the next series of MasterChef: The Professionals,” he stated. “I was only ever doing one series, and I loved judging on it. I will continue to work with MasterChef.”
Fans quickly flooded the comments section with expressions of support, many voicing disappointment at his anticipated departure. One follower lamented, “Such a shame you’re a natural — won’t be the same without you,” while another expressed a desire for him to become a permanent fixture on the show.
Tebbutt’s judging style received considerable praise during the series, with many supporters recognizing his fairness and kindness. “You are so good on it; you bring something more to the panel,” one viewer noted, underscoring the chef’s connection with the contestants.
While his stint on MasterChef was short, it was marked by enthusiasm. During the season premiere, Wareing welcomed him to the panel, to which Tebbutt joyfully replied, “Thank you very much, great to be here, great to be a part of the MasterChef family.”
Reflecting on his experience, Tebbutt shared, “It’s been a joy. I’ve loved every minute,” emphasizing the dedication displayed by contestants who invest significant effort in the competition.
His rumored exit follows a tumultuous period for the show, which recently saw the dismissal of hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode amid allegations of misconduct. Wallace was let go following serious allegations of inappropriate behavior, while Torode faced dismissal due to offensive language in the workplace. Both chefs have since apologized, making statements regarding the incidents.
As MasterChef: The Professionals looks to the future, fans are left hoping for the return of one of its most warmly received judges, Matt Tebbutt.
