Lego to Launch PlayStation 1 Set Aimed at Adult Collectors
Lego is reportedly set to release a new set inspired by the classic Sony PlayStation, according to information shared by Instagram user Lego Minecraft Goat, who is known for accurately leaking details on forthcoming Lego products.
Slated for a December launch, the Lego PlayStation 1 will be targeted toward adult collectors, mirroring the company’s recent console-themed offerings. The anticipated price for the set is $159.99 in the U.S. and €159.99 in Europe, featuring 1,911 pieces, which will include the iconic console and at least one controller.
While this piece count falls short of similar offerings such as the Lego Atari 2600, which comprised 2,532 pieces, and the Lego NES at 2,646 pieces, it is important to note that those sets contained additional models and accessories, including a television displaying “Super Mario Bros.” Given this context, the PlayStation set is likely to be comparable in scale to the primary consoles in those previous releases.
This upcoming set marks another foray for Lego into the world of PlayStation-themed collaborations. The brand has previously introduced sets based on the popular Horizon video game series, including a Tallneck model from “Horizon Forbidden West” released in 2022, along with a smaller set designed for younger audiences in conjunction with the Lego Horizon Adventures video game.
In related news, Nintendo recently announced the release of its second large-scale Mario Kart set for adult collectors, the Luigi & Mach 8 set, which is currently available for pre-order at a price of $179.99.
Lego’s efforts to cater to adult collectors have been evident in its past video game-themed sets, which have included iconic characters and elements from franchises such as Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, and The Legend of Zelda. Recent highlights in this category include a Lego set depicting the ‘Final Battle’ against Ganon in “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time,” as well as the launch of a premium Pokémon set featuring a $650 model showcasing Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur.
As Lego continues to innovate and expand its offerings for adult fans, the forthcoming PlayStation set is sure to generate significant interest among collectors and gaming enthusiasts alike.
