New Regulations for Converting Properties into HMOs in North Lincolnshire
North Lincolnshire Council has announced that, effective November, planning permission will be mandated for the conversion of smaller residential properties into houses in multiple occupation (HMOs).
The decision marks a significant change, as it eliminates the previous allowance to repurpose homes accommodating three to six unrelated individuals without formal approval, particularly in the Scunthorpe area.
In a recent public consultation, an overwhelming 90% of respondents expressed support for the new regulations. Concerns raised by the community included issues related to parking, overcrowding, and the potential loss of family housing, prompting the council to take these factors into account when formulating the new guidelines.
