Epic Games to Launch Fortnite’s ‘Save the World’ Mode as Free-to-Play
Epic Games has announced that the cooperative player versus environment (PvE) mode of its wildly popular title, Fortnite, known as Save the World, will transition to a free-to-play model on April 16, 2026. This update is expected to attract a larger player base, especially with the simultaneous launch on the upcoming Switch 2 platform.
In a statement, Epic Games noted, “After nearly ten years, the game that started it all welcomes even more players to join the fight. Save the World is going free to play on April 16.”
Incentives for Early Registration
To encourage players to pre-register, Epic is offering a series of in-game rewards. Pre-registrants will receive a hero character for Save the World, along with various items like superchargers, vouchers, and gold as thank-you gifts for current players.
An Overview of Save the World
For those unfamiliar with the mode, Save the World challenges players to fend off waves of monsters while exploring a fully destructible environment. Players can build forts, craft weapons, loot resources, and level up their characters.
To facilitate newcomers, Epic has collaborated with a community expert known as Beast, who will provide a comprehensive breakdown of the mode in light of its upcoming changes.
Community Engagement
As the launch date approaches, Epic Games is inviting players to share their thoughts on returning to this gaming experience.
