Record-Breaking Launch for Pokémon Pokopia on Switch 2
In a remarkable debut, Pokémon Pokopia, the latest life simulation game for the Switch 2, has achieved extraordinary sales figures, surpassing 2.2 million units globally within just four days of its release on March 5, 2026. This announcement was made jointly by The Pokémon Company and Nintendo.
Notably, out of this impressive total, one million units were sold in Japan alone. While specific sales data from other regions has yet to be disclosed, Pokémon Pokopia is currently topping the eShop charts in key markets such as the United States and the United Kingdom. Reports also indicate that retail supply may be struggling to keep pace with the game’s popularity, which has had a positive impact on Nintendo’s stock price.
Given that Pokémon Pokopia is an exclusive title for the Switch 2 and a spin-off from the mainline Pokémon series, its performance is particularly commendable. For comparison, Pokémon Legends: Z-A sold approximately 5.8 million copies in its first week, with around 3.89 million attributed to the Switch 2 platform.
Other top-performing Switch 2 exclusives include Kirby Air Riders at 1.76 million units, Donkey Kong Bananza at 4.25 million, and Mario Kart World, which leads the sales charts with over 14 million units. The Switch 2 console itself has seen more than 17 million units sold worldwide.
For those yet to explore Pokémon Pokopia, early reviews have praised the game. A recent review from Nintendo Life termed it the “freshest Pokémon experience in a long time,” highlighting its charm and the creative opportunities it provides players.
As Pokémon Pokopia continues to capture the attention of gamers worldwide, industry observers are eager to see how its success will influence future titles in the franchise.
