Testimony Reveals Unconventional Requests by Kanye West
In a recent court proceeding, handyman Saxon described requests made by Kanye West that many would find extraordinary. Saxon asserted that West had asked him to install a system capable of converting human waste into potable water for both drinking and bathing.
Saxon recounted an incident where West addressed his hygiene concerns, offering to help him after noticing he lacked a shower in his accommodation. He recalled a visit to the luxurious Nobu Hotel in Malibu, where West arranged a bath for him, saying, “This is a moment you’ll never forget,” as he handed Saxon a towel.
Further testimony revealed that West expressed intentions to significantly alter the beach house, originally designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Tadao Ando. Saxon claimed that West wanted to eliminate the home’s electricity and plumbing systems, remove a staircase, and replace it with a slide, with the goal of making the residence off-grid.
When West took the stand, he admitted to remembering some interactions but denied several of Saxon’s allegations, including concerns over the handyman’s odor.
West’s attorney, Andrew Cherkasky, portrayed Saxon as an unreliable witness, emphasizing that bank records showed Saxon received a payment of $240,000 during his six-week employment. Cherkasky also challenged the validity of Saxon’s reported injuries by presenting footage of him performing with a band.
“The lies are so deep and so wicked that nothing can be believed that came out of his mouth,” Cherkasky declared in his closing arguments, labeling Saxon “a professional victim.”
During his testimony, West appeared disengaged at times, prompting speculation of him falling asleep, a claim his lawyer disputed, saying, “He wasn’t sleeping. He was bored. This is beneath him.”
West purchased the property for $57 million in 2021 but sold it at a loss in 2023 after it had been stripped down and left abandoned.
Saxon initially sought $1.7 million in lost wages and medical expenses related to his work on the property; however, after a 10-day trial, he was awarded $140,000 in damages. This case marks the first of over a dozen lawsuits filed against West by former employees to proceed to trial.
The rapper has faced severe backlash in recent years due to a series of controversial statements, resulting in numerous brands severing ties with him. Last year, he was banned from entering Australia following the release of a song that reportedly glorified Adolf Hitler.
