LEGO Unveils Anticipated Mario Minifigure: A New Era for the Mushroom Kingdom
In a move that has excited fans worldwide, LEGO has announced the introduction of an officially designed minifigure for Nintendo’s iconic character, Mario. This long-awaited figure promises to enhance LEGO’s offerings within its Super Mario range.
A sneak peek of the Mario minifigure was shared on Instagram, featuring the beloved plumber springing from a warp pipe. Notably, the design incorporates a newly molded head, capturing Mario’s cap, sideburns, nose, and moustache as integral elements of the figure’s shape, as opposed to standard printed features.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from fans, who have been expressing a strong desire for a more authentic depiction of characters from the Mushroom Kingdom. While specific details regarding the minifigure’s release have yet to be disclosed, LEGO has indicated that it will be available sometime in 2027.
In their Instagram reveal, LEGO teased, “New form unlocked,” eliciting a wave of positive reactions. One user enthusiastically proclaimed, “THEY LISTENED,” while another remarked, “THIS IS LITERALLY ALL WE WANTED.”
Although LEGO has been producing Super Mario-themed sets for several years, most of the focus has been on larger electronic toys and intricate builds. This has led to a range that often resembles the Duplo line, aimed at younger children, despite calls from fans for authentic minifigures.
Speculation is rife regarding which sets will feature Mario’s debut and whether other familiar faces from the Mushroom Kingdom will join him. Given current trends, a set centered around Princess Peach’s castle featuring Mario, Luigi, and Peach appears likely.
There is also potential for the new Mario minifigure to be part of LEGO’s newly announced Smart Play range, which incorporates Smart Bricks and Smart Minifigures. This innovation infuses interactivity into the play experience, generating sounds and light effects when different elements are combined.
This week has been particularly bustling for Mario enthusiasts, coinciding with Mario Day on March 10. Nintendo has unveiled its final trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, confirmed Donald Glover as the voice of Yoshi, and announced a release date for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 platformer, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Additionally, LEGO revealed images of the Luigi Mario Kart set, while a plethora of Nintendo Switch Mario games are currently on sale.
